Los Angeles-based vallenato quintet Very Be Careful are having a release party for their new album, Escape Room, this Friday at Monte Cristo. The VBC will be playing live, along with DJ Coleman and… 3D film projections. Honestly, we’ve got no clue of what James Cameron shenanigans they’re going to come up with — yet we’re already salivating.
The band’s traditional cumbia sound centers around the accordion, with a base of percussion and bass. They started playing in the New York subway and small L.A. cafés, but their music soon took them to the Central Park Summerstage, Europe, Asia and beyond — including Remezcla’s own En Tu Ciudad concert series in their hometown. The VBC have released six studio albums so far — their first was El Niño (1998); their latest is Salad Buey (2007). They also came out with a live album, titled Horrible Club, last year.
