Si*Sé is touring the west coast in support of their third independently crafted EP titled Gold. The record’s five songs have been mastered by Bob Power (whose repertoire includes Erykah Badu and A Tribe Called Quest), and include a smoothed-out, electro-dancehall cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” the horn-inflected “This Love,” the funky “Buscaré” and “Goes On,” as well as the bittersweet “¿Dondé Está?”
The band blends sultry vocal melodies and electronic textures with dub and understated hip hop beats. Carol C singes in English and Spanish over producer Cliff Cristofaro’s post-trip-hop grooves. The band includes drummer Ryan Farley, bassist Morgan Phillips, percussionist Neil Ochoa and violinist Nicole Arena. The band released its self-titled debut in 2001 under David Byrne’s record label, and followed it up with 2005’s More Shine on Fuerte/Universal. They have shared the stage with Gotan Project, Norah Jones, Arcade Fire, Kraftwerk and The Roots. The group’s music has been featured on TV shows Sex in the City, Nip/Tuck, One Tree Hill, Six Feet Under, Project Runway and CSI.
