What better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2011 than by watching a live performance of “La Princesa de La Salsa” La India? Well, now you get a chance to at LA’s home of Latin music, The Conga Room.
Born Linda Belle Caballero in RÃo Piedras, Puerto Rico, India moved as a baby to the tough “La Candela” section of the Bronx, New York. Years later, the famous keyboardist and salsa band leader Eddie Palmieri was looking for a female singer, and when he strolled into Vega’s studio one day India’s vocalizations impressed him. Her work with Palmieri reminded listeners of Celia Cruz. In 1992, Palmieri produced India’s second salsa album, titled Llegó La India. It quickly received praise as one of the year’s best salsa albums. Since then, she’s released six more studio productions and done countless collaborations.
