Following Manu Chao‘s lead, Spanish pop-rock group El Canto del Loco recorded their new album at Hospital Neurosiquiátrico José Tiburcio aka La Colifata, a psychiatric hospital in Buenos Aires whose patients have been running their own radio station for almost 20 years.
El Canto del Loco’s bandmembers, Dani Martin (vox), David Otero (guitar) and Chema Ruiz (bass) recorded new versions of their greatest hits at La Colifata last year with Argentinean producer Afo Verde (Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Soda Stereo, Divididos) and released Radio La Colifata presenta: El Canto del Loco in CD/DVD to huge success in Spain last November. Proceeds of the album and DVD go to La Colifata’s patients, and Alejandro Sanz, Vicentico and Natalia LaFourcade appear in the album as well.
The band, which is one of the most successful acts in Spain (since their first album in 2000, they have consistently swept the charts) are even catchier and more “cachondo” than fellow countrymen Estopa or Jarabe de Palo, who are more familiar in the US and Latin America. For some reason they have not toured or had any radio play in the US…until now! Give your greatest hits a “Latino” touch recording in Argentina and with Latin American artists? Label will promote you in the US.
Radio La Colifata presenta: El Canto del Loco will finally be released in the US on March 30th, but until then, Remezcla has the exclusive online premiere of their single “Un Millon de Cicatrices”
