Set in the merciless Sonoron desert of 2010, “Detained in the Desert” is a play exploring the plight of undocumented immigrants in the United States through the unlikely pairing of a right-wing radio host and an undocumented migrant. The work of Boyle Heights’ native Josefina Lopez (Real Women Have Curves), Detained in the Desert garnered much of its inspiration from current events, along with Lopez’s own migratory experiences.
It’s only been six months since the controversial Arizona law SB1070 was written into legislation making the play a most relevant addition to the dramatic performances going on today.
Playing exclusively in Los Angeles, Detained in the Desert has a three-week run at Casa 0101 Theater, in Boyle Heights.
